Ghana has emerged as one of Africa’s most attractive investment destinations, according to Joe Leslie Obeng-John, CEO of Cornerstone Developments. Combining economic resilience, political stability, and a thriving private sector, the country continues to attract investors, entrepreneurs, and members of the global diaspora looking for opportunity in West Africa.
“A lot of people are coming into the country, investing in the country, wanting to spend time in the country,” he says. “It’s a very safe place.”
Ghana: A Gateway to Africa
For Obeng-John, Ghana’s appeal extends far beyond investment returns. He describes the country as one of the continent’s most welcoming destinations, offering visitors a unique blend of culture, hospitality, and opportunity.
“Ghana, we always say, is a gateway to Africa,” he explains. “If you want to have an experience of Africa, one of the first places you come to is Ghana.”
Visitors quickly discover more than business opportunities. They encounter a country known for its welcoming people, vibrant culture, favorable climate, and strong sense of community.
“When you come to Ghana, it feels like home,” he says.
A Private Sector Driving Growth
Obeng-John credits much of Ghana’s economic progress to the strength of its private sector.
“Economically, Ghana is mainly driven by the private sector,” he says. “The private industry is doing very well, and that allows the economy to grow.”
Despite significant development over the past decade, he believes Ghana remains an emerging market with substantial untapped potential.
“There’s so much opportunity here in Ghana,” he says. “It’s still an uncharted frontier.”
Accra’s Real Estate Transformation
One of the clearest examples of Ghana’s economic evolution is the rapid transformation of Accra’s skyline.
“There’s been an explosion of development in Accra, especially over the last ten years,” Obeng-John explains. “If you look at the city from ten years ago to what it is now, there’s been huge investment in the real estate sector.”
That momentum continues to attract both local and international investors seeking strong long-term returns.
“It’s a safe place to invest,” he says. “People always want to invest in real estate because of the yields.”
According to Obeng-John, investors can typically achieve rental yields of between 10% and 12%, while also benefiting from capital appreciation over time.
Diaspora Investment Fueling Growth
Government initiatives such as the Year of Return and Beyond the Return have played a significant role in attracting members of the African diaspora back to Ghana.
“These initiatives attracted a lot of people from the diaspora into Ghana,” Obeng-John notes.
Legislative reforms have also made property ownership more accessible for non-Ghanaian nationals, further strengthening demand for residential and investment properties.
The result has been increased confidence in Ghana’s property market and renewed international interest in the country.
Building Luxury with Long-Term Value
At Cornerstone Developments, Obeng-John says quality remains the company’s defining principle.
“Cornerstone is a good place to invest because you know what you’re going to get,” he explains. “You get quality properties, luxury, and service.”
Unlike many developers, Cornerstone continues managing its projects after completion, providing investors with a hands-off ownership experience while maintaining the value of their assets.
Attention to detail is equally important.
“We’re trying to build a legacy brand,” he says. “We don’t believe in cutting any kind of corners. Everything we give you is the best quality, the best options, and the best finishes.”
Leaving a Lasting Legacy
For Obeng-John, success extends beyond financial returns.
“Contributing to the landscape development and change in the country as a whole—that, for me, is the most important thing,” he says. “Leaving monuments that can be admired in time to come.”

This philosophy reflects a commitment to creating developments that positively shape Ghana’s urban landscape for future generations.
Proudly Ghanaian
One characteristic that distinguishes Cornerstone, Obeng-John believes, is its local identity.
“We’re 100% Ghanaian owned,” he says. “We understand what people want. We understand what our culture wants.”
That local knowledge enables the company to deliver projects tailored to Ghana’s evolving luxury market while showcasing the capabilities of Ghanaian professionals.
“We’re able to prove that we can achieve high-end quality developments as a Ghanaian company with Ghanaian workers,” he says. “That is something we are very proud of.”
A Place to Call Home
Obeng-John’s message to investors, visitors, and members of the global diaspora is deeply personal.
“Come home,” he says. “Ghana is home to everyone—not just Ghanaians.”
Having first visited the country more than two decades ago, he says he immediately felt a sense of belonging that inspired him to build his career there.
“The people are welcoming. The weather’s great. The food is great. Everything about Ghana is so welcoming.”
For him, Ghana offers more than investment opportunities—it offers a place where people from around the world can build businesses, communities, and lasting connections.
As Ghana’s economy continues to grow and its real estate sector evolves, Cornerstone Developments aims to remain at the forefront of luxury development, helping shape the country’s future while creating enduring value for investors and residents alike.
