Ghana is one of Africa’s most promising investment destinations, according to Subhi Accad, CEO of Universal Motors. From its political stability and welcoming people to its agricultural wealth and strategic location, he believes the country possesses all the ingredients necessary for long-term economic growth and regional leadership.
In this exclusive interview, Accad shares his perspective on Ghana’s strengths, the opportunities emerging across key sectors, and why investors should look closely at one of West Africa’s most dynamic economies.
Ghana’s Greatest Asset: Its People
For Accad, Ghana’s most valuable resource is not found underground or in financial markets—it is the people themselves.
“The people of Ghana, the Ghanaians, this is the biggest wealth they have here,” he says. “Because of their nature, their hospitality, their peaceful mind, and their commitment to families.”
This culture of openness and stability, he argues, creates an environment that is attractive not only for investors but also for businesses looking to establish long-term operations.
Economic Stability and Investor Confidence
Accad sees significant potential in Ghana’s efforts to strengthen economic stability, particularly through its natural resources.
“Ghana is very rich in gold,” he explains. “The best way of stabilizing the currency is to have the reserves of gold that can stabilize our currency.”

A stronger and more stable currency, he believes, would provide an additional boost to investor confidence and support broader economic development.
“That will give us a very big push and help attract investors,” he adds.
A Safe and Stable Business Environment
One of Ghana’s most important competitive advantages, according to Accad, is security and stability.
“Ghana is safe,” he says. “It’s safer than most countries in Europe, safer than most countries in South America and Africa.”
In a global business environment where stability plays a crucial role in investment decisions, Ghana’s reputation for peace and political continuity continues to strengthen its position as a preferred destination for regional operations.
A Gateway to Hundreds of Millions of Consumers
While Ghana’s domestic market is significant, Accad believes the country’s true advantage lies in its regional connectivity.
“We are around 30 million people, but we are in the middle of 380 to 400 million people,” he explains.
The expansion of African trade integration is creating opportunities that extend far beyond national borders. Businesses establishing themselves in Ghana gain access to a much larger regional market.
“Now with African trade opportunities, we are not talking only about 30 million people anymore,” he says. “We are talking about hundreds of millions.”
For investors, this means Ghana can serve as a strategic hub from which companies can expand across the continent.
“You establish in one place and spread your wings.”
The Foundation of Growth
Agriculture remains the sector Accad sees as having the greatest potential for transformation and long-term prosperity.
“Agriculture is extremely important,” he says. “If it is well organized and well developed, we can feed Africa.”
The country benefits from fertile land, favorable climatic conditions, and significant untapped agricultural resources.
“The prime sector is definitely agriculture,” he explains. “Agriculture is abundant. We have a very fertile soil.”
Beyond traditional products, Ghana has opportunities to diversify production and increase value-added processing throughout the agricultural value chain.
Unlocking Untapped Agricultural Potential
Accad highlights cocoa and shea butter as examples of sectors where Ghana already enjoys a strong international reputation.
“When we talk about cocoa, when we talk about shea butter, we have everything,” he says.
At the same time, he notes that large areas of agricultural land remain underutilized.
“We still have so much undeveloped agricultural land that can be used.”
Through modern farming methods, greenhouse production, and improved agricultural organization, Ghana has the potential to dramatically increase productivity and food security while creating employment opportunities across rural communities.
Technology and Services Opportunities
Beyond agriculture, Accad sees strong potential for Ghana to become a destination for technology and service-based industries.
“I see Ghana as a good source for development for IT companies to come and settle down here,” he says.
As digital transformation accelerates across Africa, Ghana’s educated workforce, stable business environment, and strategic location position it well to attract technology companies serving regional and international markets.
Quality of Life Matters
Investment decisions are not based solely on economics. Accad believes Ghana’s quality of life also plays a significant role in attracting talent and business leaders.
“We have the nice weather, the sun, and the nice people,” he says.
Combined with its stability and hospitality, these factors contribute to making Ghana an appealing place to live, work, and invest.
A Country of Untapped Potential
For Accad, one message stands above all others: Ghana remains a country with significant room for growth.
“It’s a very rich country with a very high potential of doing things,” he says.
While mature markets face intense competition, he believes Ghana still offers opportunities for businesses willing to invest early and grow alongside the economy.
“Here we are still green,” he explains. “There are possibilities.”
As regional integration accelerates and investment flows increase across Africa, Accad sees Ghana positioned to play a central role in the continent’s next chapter of economic growth.
Looking Ahead
With abundant natural resources, fertile agricultural land, a growing regional market, and a reputation for stability, Ghana offers a compelling proposition for investors seeking long-term opportunities in Africa.
For Subhi Accad, the country’s greatest strength lies in the combination of its people, its resources, and its potential.
As Africa’s economic integration deepens and new industries emerge, Ghana is increasingly positioning itself as a gateway to growth, innovation, and opportunity across the continent.
